Ooo, I guess I really should take the time to write updates
more often. Unfortunately, the busier I am the less time I have
to write it all down! Isn’t there a Pennsylvania Dutch or
Amish saying about that phenomenon which goes something like,
“The hurrier I go the behinder I get”?
At least I remember one of my aunts had a little plaque in her
kitchen with that saying on it.
My songwriter friend
Lisa Moritz
is in the middle of recording her second cd, and she asked me to
contribute mandolin and harmony vocals on a couple songs. I have
finished the mandolin for one song and hope to have the final
track for the the other song complete by early next week. I think
we’ll track the vocals at a later time after the majority of
the instrument parts are done. My good friend
Steve Unruh,
an amazing composer and musician in his own right, has even agreed
to add some violin parts all the way from his home in Rhode Island!
I believe Lisa hopes to release the new cd early in 2007, so be sure
to bookmark her website for news on when it is available!
In other news, Lawrence, Kansas’, own
Through a Glass Productions
has finished their feature-length musical titled
“Air”
and has begun submitting it to film festivals!!
Steve Unruh
composed a heck of a lot of music for this movie, and will be coming
to Lawrence with his wife for the cast & crew premiere. I
added a vocal part to one of the songs on the “Air”
soundtrack, and so I get to go to the cast & crew premiere too;
it’s quite exciting! Steve asked me to play a few songs
with him at the afterparty, and it will be great to perform with him
again, provided we can get a few songs worked up together within
the next week with all the other projects going on.
You’ll definitely want to check out the
Through a Glass Productions
website to watch the trailer for “Air,” and be on the
lookout for it in the film festival circuit!

Okay, I’m finally starting to get my arse, er, self up in
front of people and play a few songs.
I’ve been going to an open mic at the
Crave Cafe
for the past month or so and have really been enjoying it, although
it’s not helping curb my caffeine habit!!
The open mic is hosted by
Valorie Engholm.
Valorie is also in the band
Manifold Array.
Manifold Array will be playing a show at the Crave on Friday, August
18, 2006, and they have graciously invited me to do an opening set.
It’ll be my first “real” performance in quite a
few years. I think Val Bontrager will probably play bass guitar on
a couple of songs. There is more information on the
Live & In Person
page. Whoohoo!!

Ugh, I just saw on the internet that there is a 27-year-old “Laura
Cossey” who is wanted on charges of accessory to murder in the
death of an Oklahoma City police officer. Scary!
It reminds me of how when I first moved to Lawrence we
would often get phone calls and messages from various places looking
for a “Don Cossey.” One of the callers even told me
this “Don Cossey” had provided my name as his ex-wife - Ha!
I wonder if the Oklahoma City girl could be the one that caller was
looking for.
Geez, why can’t my last name be shared with a nobel
laureate or international peace activist or something nice!!!

I added a photo slide show to the
Artsy Stuff
page. It was fun to set up. Check it out!

12/30/05 - www.lauracossey.com is finally up and running!
Well, after much deliberation I finally decided to set up a website
for my music. I've spent the last couple of years putting together
a small digital home studio and am now in the process of recording my first
solo cd. I have absolutely no idea when it will be finished, but
hope to release it some time in 2006, unless, of course, I chicken
out at the last minute.
After the cd is finished I hope to start playing live again.
Valerie Bontrager is graciously learning the bass guitar parts I’ve been
writing. Now, if I could only find a drummer who sings and someone
who sings and plays a ariety of other instruments . . .
That’s it for now. I need to get back to recording so there
will be some actual content for this website! Thanks for visiting!
